Together with Les Grignoux, we are presenting Christian Petzold’s new film Miroirs No. 3, which had its world premiere this year in the “Quinzaine des Cinéastes” section at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was met with great enthusiasm.

Christian Petzold is regarded as one of the most prominent auteur filmmakers of our time and is considered a co-founder of the so-called Berlin School. His work consistently explores themes such as identity, loss, memory, love, and death, and is characterized by a realistic yet strikingly stylized cinematic language.

Following his acclaimed reinterpretation of the myth of Undine (Undine, 2020) and the multiple award-winning relationship drama Afire (Roter Himmel, 2023), Petzold returns in Miroirs No. 3 to the theme of the loss of a child—a subject he has already explored with unsettling precision in Wolfsburg (2003) and Ghosts (Gespenster, 2005).

„Le réalisateur allemand Christian Petzold (Barbara, Le Ciel rouge) propose un conte sur le deuil et la renaissance dont la grande subtilité formelle installe une ambiance énigmatique qui fascine et séduit fortement. Lors d’un week-end à la campagne, Laura, étudiante à Berlin, survit miraculeusement à un accident de voiture. Physiquement épargnée mais profondément secouée, elle est recueillie chez Betty, qui a été témoin de l’accident et s’occupe d’elle avec affection. Peu à peu, le mari et le fils de Betty surmontent leur réticence, et une quiétude quasi familiale s’installe. Mais bientôt, ils ne peuvent plus ignorer leur passé, et Laura doit affronter sa propre vie.“
