As part of the Week for German, the Institute of German Language and Literature at Ghent University is organizing a German film evening. We will be screening “Zwei zu Eins” (2024) by Natja Brunckhorst.
The film “Zwei zu Eins” tells the story of Maren, Robert and Volker, who in the summer of 1990 discover millions of East German marks in an old shaft in Halberstadt. They develop a system to exchange this now worthless money for goods, in order to outwit the rising capitalist logic and secure their future. Inspired by true events, the film addresses themes of greed and solidarity during the transition from the GDR to the Federal Republic.
