Don’t have the opportunity to take part in a ‘Week for German’ event with your German learners? Then we have a teaching tip for you on how you can make German visible in everyday life and actively involve your learners in the process.

Task
Invite your learners to spend a week collecting traces of German in Belgium. These could be, for example:

• Products or brands from Germany, Austria or Switzerland – at home or when travelling
• German words or terms on the street, in advertising or on menus
• German media such as films, series, music, posts on social media, streaming services, radio or TV
• Tourism & everyday life: signs, flyers, events or restaurants with German food

How it works:
The learners take a photo every day. At the end of the week, they present their photos in small groups and briefly talk about them. The learners can discuss the following questions:

• What did they find and where?
• What exactly is it (product, advertisement, music, film …)?
• Is there a personal connection to this product (childhood, family, travelling)?
• Did you notice this product before or only now?
• Have you learnt a new German word?
