Swedish actress Zarah Leander was very popular during the occupation thanks to the films in which she sang and danced. The Great Love was a so-called “morale-boosting film”, encouraging German women to persevere and support their men, even if they had to spend years fighting at the front.

The accompanying film, made at the initiative of the German propaganda service in occupied Belgium, sought to demonstrate that the Flemish and German peoples shared a common ancestry.

The screening will be preceded by a short bilingual video introduction by Roel Vande Winkel (LUCA/KU Leuven).
