In this adventure film set in the Alps, a young woman named Wally rejects an arranged marriage and retreats to the mountains where the vultures live. Hans Steinhoff, who also directed the propaganda film “Hitlerjunge Quex” in 1933, bases the film on Wilhelmine von Hillern’s successful novel “Die Geierwally”, which has been adapted for the screen several times. The accompanying newsreel dates from August 1941 and reflects German optimism at a time when the fighting on the Eastern Front still favoured Germany.
